Two 21-year-old NIFT Students, Sindhuja K from Hyderabad and Praween KR from Bihar, founded a fashion brand Young Trendz (Selling T-Shirts) to meet the needs of fashion-loving generation. Their startup brand, within 5 days, sold up to 25000 units during Flipkart’s festive sale in 2017.

The duo was students when the idea of entrepreneurship strikes. In the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai, they were studying in the knitwear design course in seventh semester when they got an idea to start their own business on their own.

When ecommerce industry was booming in 2015, the duo made decision to be the part of the crowd and started Young Trendz, their official online clothing brand by investing Rs. 10 Lakh in September. They started selling on Amazon, Flipkart, PayTm Mall and Voonik and other online marketplaces in two months and introduced their own ecommerce portal.

They have seen very fast growth. They started offering freebies and customized T-shirts in college fests before their semester, under the brand of Young Trendz.

Sindhuja added, “In the beginning, we were taking just 10 orders per day. We collaborated with up to 100 colleges across India, along with IIMs and IITs and started offering T-shirts.

Eventually, the startup started selling 1000 units per day and became Rs. 20 Cr. worth of brand with 0 VC financing.

Their Journey (Selling T-Shirts) from Chennai to Tirupur

With the growth of Young Trendz, seamless development of their product line was their focus which was possible only in Tirupur, which is the leading knitwear manufacturing destination in the country. The duo visited Tirupur for college projects with a confidence that they could manufacture and provide quality products. But they had language problems initially as they both were not from Tamil origin. However, their shift was beneficial for them when it comes to source raw material and product development.

Praween added, “We got the right workforce with best knowledge and skills in garment industry in Tirupur which was important for product development and got talented and highly skilled IT professionals for online operations from Coimbatore.” Shipments could be picked up by the courier services tied with the ecommerce sites. So, there was no problem in transportation.

Young Trendz all success story

Serving a Huge Audience Base

Young Trendz has been established, as the name suggests, with a focus on trending designs for 20-somethings, as their products have cool graphics and designs that youth can relate. Sindhuja added, “We always keep an eye on what’s trending in daily life and on social media for graphic inspiration. We have over 1.5 lakh products in competition to stay on the first page on online stores, including both domestic and international brands. So, there is no lack of tough competition.

Now, Young Trendz has warehouses in Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu with over 30 people in a team. They are looking forward to open one more in West Bengal.

According to Sindhuja, these warehouses will help us to serve our customers across India. After West Bengal and other north-eastern states, they get most demand of clothing from Delhi and over 90% of shipments have been delivered before the given date.

Young Trendz was the first brand which has brought the concept of couple clothing, a well-known trend, to India all the way from Korea and China. They sold limited stocks as a trial in 2016 during Valentine’s Day season. They got great requests and response from the buyers. So they get 20% of sales of couple clothing. According to Sindhuja, quick delivery and implementing global trends are their USP. Currently, there are three designers working for Young Trendz and the brand also outsources ad campaign shoots and photo shoots.

According to Sindhuja, the brand offers unmatched quality with affordable price ranging from just Rs. 250 to Rs. 600 for college goers. They have over 3500 products to attract huge audience base in all online markets, which helps them garner over 70% of revenue. They refresh the collections two times a month and social followers always stay up to date with latest discounts and offers.

Praween added, “We are awarded among the top brands in Flipkart for performance during the Big Billon Days sale this year. During the sale, the response was so huge that it took just 5 days to sell over 25000 units.

One of those is Niharika Choudhary (22) who found her inspiration around her home when she took part in a design competition in NIFT, New Delhi. In the contest, every student was assigned to show their creativity. She was the winner in handicraft product design category. Niharika says, “It was Basant Panchami when the exhibition was scheduled – perfect day for yellow color and for new beginnings and hope.” She soon decided to promote her products in public by launching Peeli Dori, an online store. Peeli stands for Yellow color and Dori stands for a bond she has ever wanted to build with her products.

Peeli Dori is a newly-launched startup. Since 2015, it is a lifestyle brand inspired by the Indian traditions and aesthetics. Peeli Dori is a profit-sharing model which bootstrapped so far with the artisans and shares a percentage of company profits with them so they have equal responsibility and involvement for the product. All Peeli Dori products come with a tag which tells the story of artisan who made it. It gives due recognition to them.

Business Growth

According to Niharika, her business is scalable if one considers the popularity and diversity of crafts in the market. But according to her, it is a challenge to make an entry and sustain a well-organized business in a much unorganized sector. She added, “Indians are too attached to their work. We should build trust with them by ensuring transparency and by introducing them to the market where their product has huge demand.

On per month basis, Peeli Dori has seen growth 10% with average sales per month in their offline store is starting from Rs. 90000 to Rs. 1,00,000 and in online store ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 60,000. The mandate of Peeli Dori lies in its sustainability. The products completely blend traditional techniques with modern designs, be it home furnishing or clothing. According to Niharika, one thing that keeps them ahead is that they are telling a story of handicraft in a very unique way by transforming its face completely.

Market Reach

The artifact sector has over 67000 export houses and over 7 million artisans, making it one of the diversified sectors in India in creating job opportunities. But it is a bit unorganized and most of the artisans belong mostly to the weaker sections and work in remotest areas of India. They need proper training, improvement, and access to markets.

Also known as ERB, Epic Rap Battles of History is a YouTube web series created by Lloyd Ahlquist (EpicLLOYD) and Peter Shukoff (Nice Peter). The series features various well-known pop culture and historical personalities, fictional and real, over one another in the form of a rap battle. In July 2017, it became the 43rd most subscribed YouTube channel with up to 14.2 million subscribers and 3.3 billion views.

Early episodes of ERB featured only EpicLLOYD and Nice Peter, later episodes also had special appearances and various global celebs, such as George Watsky, Lisa Donovan, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Jesse Wellens, DeStorm Power, PewDiePie, Lilly Singh, Jenna Marbles, Rhett and Link, Ray William Johnson, and Smosh. Some of the other appearances are media celebs like rappers T-Pain, Snoop Dogg, Chali 2na, comedian duo Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key, and parody artist “Weird AlYankovic, in the series.

On July 3, 2013, the first of its singles which were certified Gold was “Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney” by the Recording Industry Association of America. Its 10 other singles also certified Gold, including “Adolf Hitler vs. Darth Vader”, “Dr. Seuss vs. William Shakespeare”, “Albert Einstein vs. Stephen Hawling”, “Mario Brothers vs. Wright Brothers”, Steve Jobs vs. Bill Gates”, Master Chief vs. Leonidas”, “Abraham Lincoln vs. Chuck Norris”, etc.

History from Beginning to Present

The idea behind the historical names rapping over one another came from Ahlquist who shared it to Shukoff as an improvised title “Check OneTwo” as the duo worked on improvisation skits accompanied by Zach Sherwin, who has appearance on the series. They faced a lot of challenges in the beginning and decided it would fare a lot better as a series on YouTube as compared to an improvised show. Each of the three rap battles were shot on the budget of $50. The first rap battle was released on September 26, 2010 on YouTube, featuring Ahlquist as Bill O’Reilly and Shukoff as John Lennon.

Before the web series on YouTube, EpicLLOYD and Nice Peter recorded the first song between actor Michael J. Fox and antagonist in Child’s Play, Chucky. It was poorly made and freestyle. Hence, it was not released in public. Instead, Ahlquist and Shukoff recorded their first official video for “John Lennon vs. Bill O’Reilly”.

The Final Battle” which was the 15th episode marked the finale of the first season. The battle pitted NicePeter and EpicLLOYD over one another with cameos from all characters they played in 15 episodes. Later on, Epic Rap Battles of History came back on December 8, 2011 and hosted on ERB, their new channel from NicePeter’s own channel, with videos behind the curtains on their another channel ERB2. Maker Studios and Nice Peter also shared the series on their official website where fans were allowed to vote for winners in each video and read first-person short comical biographies from each character.

Epic Rap Battles of History is a YouTube all story

After a break for four months followed by “Steve Jobs vs. Bill Gates” episode, a video was released on September 27, 2012 on the YouTube Channel of the series where EpicLLOYD (who voiced to Theodore Roosevelt animation) declared that latest episodes releasing soon in every two weeks until holiday season, started with “Frank Sinatra vs. Freddie Mercury”, which was 22nd episode aired on October 1, 2012.

Epic Rap Battles of History Award

The first off-season battle ever was released on December 16, 2015, titled “Deadpool vs. Boba Fett”. Epic Rap Battles of History was Emmy Award nominated in 2016 in the new category “Outstanding Short Form Variety Series” at 68th Primetime Emmy Awards. It was announced on February 26, 2016 that Season 5 would be starting on May 2, 2016 and it was announced on March 22 that production had started.

On May 2, 2016, Season 5 officially started with the launch of first battle of “George R.R. Martin vs. J.R.R. Tolkien”. ERB launched battles every Monday since the first half of fifth season. It released Alexander the Great vs. Ivan the Terrible on July 12, 2016. It marked the break midseason. Later on, EpicLLOYD confirmed their plan to return by late October. Filming started for next half on September 23. Season 5 resumed on October 26 with “Donald Trump vs. Hilary Clinton”. The last episode was released where NicePeter and EpicLLOYD fought against one another on January 9, 2017 once again.

He is an Irish game commentator, producer, and YouTube personality, well known for his comic videos Let’s Play on video games as well as his official vlogs. Currently, he lives in Brighton, England. Recently in November 2017, his YouTube channel has grossed 8.2 billion views and up to 17 million subscribers, making him a YouTube superstar with 31st most subscribed YouTube channel.

His Professional Life

The duo tasted YouTube success where TheFineBros (later known as Fine Brothers Entertainment, and then FBE) grossed up to 3.8 billion views and 14 billion subscribers, as of February 2016. They also have another channel TheFineBros2, introduced on May 2009. They also launched another channel React on July 2014 to expand their content on React.

They also joined another venture Maker Studios and talked to Shane Dawson regarding the project and introduced as the head of creative and head of production. In 2009, they ran Maker Studios and enjoyed early planning and success for Multi-channel networks (MCN). Since then, they have been vocal advocates for fair action of creators.

They uploaded a lot of series on their main channel and created some of the well-known unscripted series and scripted narratives in web history, along with their notable and award-winning React series. His younger brother Deji Olatunji is also a popular YouTube star called as ComedyShortsGamer. Dude Perfect is a YouTube-based American sports entertainment group, including Garrett Hilbert, twins Cory and Coby Cotton, Tyler Tony, and Cody Jones. They all are former basketball players in high school as well as roommates who studied at Texas A&M University.

These guys are well known for stunt-based trick shots and other extreme sports methods and they are also involved in “Stereotypes” series for comedy sessions where they make fun on widespread stereotypes in sports world. They often take part in charitable and not-for-profit campaigns and they also worked with Make-A-Wish.

According to the group, their shots usually rely more on skills in American football instead of baseball. They have broken a lot of records in Guinness Book of World Records and have up to 23 million subscribers and 3.8 billion video views as of October 2017. So, they are the 13th most subscribed YouTube channel and second most popular sports channel, behind Sports which has up to 75 million subscribers.

Dude Perfect – The Beginning

Earlier, they had Tyler, along with Cory, Coby and Garrett in the group. Then twins approached Cody to join them. Through football shots on their backyard, they used to bet on sandwiches, which were also recorded and trick shot video at ranch “Backyard Edition” was also released. The video got up to 100,000 views in a week.

Tony stated about the name, “Sean is our camera guy who set it down on a ledge. By turning on the camera, Tyler was in frame already and he said “dude, perfect” and he barely needed to move camera. When we went to edit video, the twins decided to brand it and named ‘Dude Perfect’.

Then, they launched a trick shot video Sky Ranch from the Christian summer camp, which has up to 18 million views now.
